After a year of studying our American History, and our United STATES Constitution, I have realized the secular education received in my last 40-50 years has omitted about 70% or more of real American History.  Thus I am studying it in earnest now, and the learning is thrilling to say the least.

I first recommend that you watch 4 videos of a young Pastor named Richard Church.

He produced an American Constitution Video for a "Campaign For Liberty" Meet Up Group in 2010 in preparation for the presidential elections for that year. The YouTube videos are posted by links below, and server copies will be uploaded to assure these will be available should the links break.
The short story is this: for the last 5,000 years of known world history, governments have been set up over men by an eventual elite few. They have ruled over great masses of people and established even some great kingdoms and nations. But virtually all of these have become tyrannical and oppressive to the common people of the nation, and most have ended in destruction because of the unchangeable evil nature of the human race. (Jeremiah 17:9)
BUT IN THE 1770s SOMETHING CHANGED ALL OF THAT! The United States Constitution, and the Making of the American "Democratic REPUBLIC."

We are using this and the material  below to teach American History locally.

5kLeap-cover'The 5,000 Year Leap" is produced by the National Center for Constitutional Studies www.nccs.net and is given in 2 Parts.
These are educational programs usable in school and civic venues to bring forth some 28 principles that embody the United States Constitution, and the desires of the founding fathers by their original writings. They are principles actually found in the Declaration of Independence of 1776 and the Preamble to the US Constitution, as well as the Constitution itself, 1787.

Earl Taylor leads these home-town school setting lessons in Arizona, his home state. The lessons and book present literal reading right out of the book followed by a "teacher" follow-up explanation of the meaning of the quotes and power-point like slides for note-taking.

We find that the forefathers are extremely well educated and sometimes not easily understood without explanation- a sad commentary on the literacy level of 21 century Americans! Quizzes and tests are included in the material, but we do not choose to use them in a nursing home setting.


The Declaration Of Independence TEXT July 4, 1776


-- When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. 


 

The Foundations of Free Government 

-- We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. 
That, to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. 
That, whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. 
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. 
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government and to provide new Guards for their future security.
Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. ...

We, therefore, the representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

These lessons are currently being presented at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center of East Hartford.

Any are welcome to visit locally. We meet each Sunday afternoon between the hours of 2pm and 4pm, and begin as soon as that week's schedule permits.

Our small group meets at the 2AB Lunch room where we use the Wall-mounted TV for viewing the lessons.
