Thank you for your interest in studying the 'believing'
concept Jesus taught as presented in the 4th gospel. This is important to
study because it will form the basis for your gaining a determined assurance
of eternal salvation in physical life. this can bring much peace to the soul
and heart as you and I realize we truly can have everlasting life and full
assurance we will live forever with Christ in Heaven. The page (s) following
is (are) organized by separate tables with scripture on the left and
commentary on the right. The important thing to
remember when doing this study is that you are reading an eternal book
given to us by God. It does not lie or in any way deceive us. You
are trusting (believing) God's account, not a man's version of it when you
study the Bible in this way. It can truly set you at peace and give you
boldness to answer any doubts the evil one may bring to set one back in the
Christian Walk. |
| Chapters 1-3 Chapter 1 -----------------------------------------------
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:7
6 There was a man sent from God
, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe
.
Who's authority is behind the "believing" promise?
The verse clearly teaches that God, Himself, is the One who has authority to make such a claim
. God also uses men to accomplish this task, an amazing fact since man is fallible and imperfect.
John 1:12;
12
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become
children of God, to those who believe in His name:
John 1:50;

| | Supplemental Explanatory Notes -----------------------------------------
John begins his gospel as an introduction to simple and basic concepts:
v. 1
v.7
 | "John" - the Baptist, not the author of this Book. |
 | John's Purpose in coming was to bear witness
to the truth:
 | Mat. 3.3 For this is he who was spoken of by
the prophet Isaiah, saying: "The voice of one crying in the
wilderness: `Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths
straight.'" |
 | Isa 40:3 ¶ The voice of one crying in the
wilderness: "Prepare the way of the LORD; Make straight in the
desert A highway for our God.
|
|
v. 12
 | All who simply receive Jesus receive
the right or privilege to become sons of God: this is directly
attributed to those who
believe in His name. To receive Him is to accept Him
as He claimed He was: the "Messiah"= "anointed one" called by God to
deliver Israel from their bondage to sin.
 | Joh 1:41 He first found
his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the
Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ). |
 | Joh 4:25 The woman said to
Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ).
"When He comes, He will tell us all things."
