Review: The Sovereignty Attribute: God is Sovereign by best definition from Scripture Itself: Eph 1:11 ... Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will. We can trust in Him!
Significant Scripture passages: PS 147.5; MT 28.18; PS 68.34 add: IS 40.28 -29
Definition and Notes: Omnipotence of God means:
"He is able to do whatever He wills; but since His will is limited by His nature, this means that God can do anything that is within the harmony of His perfections. God cannot ‘look upon iniquity’ (Habakkuk 1:13), ‘deny Himself’ (2 Tim 2.13), or ‘commit sin’ (James 1.13). "– Henry Thiessen, Lectures in Systematic Theology, p 126.
GOD IS GLORIFIED BY THE DISPLAY OF GREAT POWER – Compare the Red Sea deliverance of Israel, God’s people. ("I will gain honor...for Myself" Ex 14.4, Ex 14.17)
9C. Omnipotent (all-powerful; strong)
* Creator – His power originates from a source: He is Creator.
IS 40.28 _29
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Psalm 147:5
Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.
Matthew 28:18
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority (kjv, power) has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Psalm 68:34
Ascribe strength to God; His excellence is over Israel, and His strength is in the clouds.
The Omnipotence of Jesus Christ was seen in many NT occasions. We have taken only one of His miracles for an example:
Luke 4:33 Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice, 34 saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are – the Holy One of God!"
35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him.
36 Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, "What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."
Paul used the power of Jesus Christ to encourage the believers At Colosse:
Col 1:11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;
Believers in the Old Testament used the power of God for mighty accomplishments:
Heb 11:34 quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
Applications:
| 1. Draw upon God’s Power for strength to
do His will.

"greater works" than Jesus did Himself!

| 3. Realize that as an heir of God, You will
inherit the resurrection power of God.
